The thyroid is an endocrine gland, that is to say it secretes and pours hormones directly into the blood system. It is responsible for the manufacture of T3 and T4 hormones which influence the functioning of all of our cells and the organs of the body. These hormones stimulate, for example, metabolism, body temperature, muscular energy or the use of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins.

But the influence of the thyroid gland is very often overlooked. By regulating certain hormones, the thyroid also exercises a vital role for the hair. The various functions of the thyroid influence the proper cellular functioning of hair follicles, on the growth and health of
hair.

Thyroid problems are noticed by significant fatigue, a state of anxiety, but also a change in the hair and skin structure. Take a concrete example: the case of hypothyroidism, a dysfunction of the thyroid gland which causes an insufficiency of hormonal production. In terms of hair, this dysfunction results in a decrease in cellular metabolism of hair follicles, and therefore a slowdown in their biological functioning.

Hypothyroidism, just like hyperthyroidism which, conversely, designates an abnormally high production of hormones by the thyroid gland, disruption the natural renewal of the hair and lead, on the whole of the head, an important hair loss .
What is more, the metabolic slowdown due to hormonal disruption applies to the whole body. Therefore, the use of proteins is slower and the hair is generally less nourished. It is for these reasons that the health of your hair can be impacted by a thyroid problem. Hair loss is then more abundant and the hair tends to grow less quickly.
